Shoes for the Girls

I want to make sure that my girls not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful, too. So I guess that means 5 inch stilettos are out. I am not good at picking out pumps that aren’t sky high, as a 5’2” gal, the higher the better. I am however, realistic in understanding that this may not be everyone’s philosophy. So begins my search for a gold sandal, with a low heel that is reasonably priced.

Love is in the Air

I am getting really excited about the decor for our ceremony site. Our florist, Wesley Berry, has been so helpful in recreating a display peice that I saw in an issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. The space where we are holding our ceremony is a music rehearsal room with really high ceilings, so I wanted something with height to fill some of the space. Last week, I was sent this picture with this note from Sandy, our florist.

"I finally have the "L" photo. It looks really unique. We can add the swirling lights inside. In the photo I didn't have them on. It was a real eyecatcher in the showroom and had many comments."

You know I am a sucker for passerby comments. I can't wait to see the whole thing come to life!

Photographer Booked!!!

It has been over a week since my last post, I was really on a role there for a while. Planning is in a slow spot, since our next Michigan trip isn’t coming until the first week of March, but I do have some exciting news (which you can probably tell from the title of this post.) We booked our wedding photographer!! We received great recommendations from our planner and I am so excited with our pick. Our photographers are Michelle and her husband Chris of Inspired Art! They are local in Michigan and have done photography at our venue and many others in Michigan and other destination locations. I am really excited to meet and work with them.

It is funny that most of my favorite pictures come from their “unbridal” photo sessions. For those not obsessed with wedding blogs, an “unbridal” photo session (sometimes known as "trash the dress" sessions) is a photo shoot after the wedding, where you put the dress back on to take pictures that you wouldn’t want to take on your wedding day. This is often because these photo sessions put you in more creative places that could get you dirty. It seems like a ton of fun, but most likely we won't be able to do it since we leave for the honeymoon right after the wedding. It is a great excuse to wear the dress again. We will see if Evan will let me pack the dress as my carry on for a Michigan trip after the wedding...

Things to do: Motown Museum

Motown music has influenced the American music culture for decades and Detroit City is where it all began. I haven’t been to the home of Motown, but I have toured the Graceland Mansion (twice) and Suncoast Records Museum in Memphis. I imagine that the Motown Museum is the Northern version of these kinds of landmarks. Music buff or not, it is always interesting to see how many things have changed from the beginning of rock and roll. Just 30 years ago, recording an album and getting it played on the radio was a completely different process than it is today. That is largely in part to companies such as Motown Records. Artists such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, the Jackson 5 and many many others all got their start with Motown Records and will all be a part of the soundtrack at our upcoming Wedding Reception.

The museum features guided tours – “Visitors are encouraged to experience the Museum with one of our historical presenters. Tours are given at regular intervals during the Museum’s hours of operations.”

Hours of operation are: Tuesday thru Saturday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Tickets: Adults: $10.00 per person, Seniors and Children 12 & under: $8.00 per person

Golden Globes to Wedding Dress

At this past Sunday’s Golden Globes, actress Christina Hendricks of Mad Men, wore a dress designed by my brother that is very very similar to the style we agreed upon for my wedding dress. Obviously I don’t have hooters like Christina and my dress will be white instead of peach, but I am excited to see the design come to life. The bodice on my dress will also be different than this, but I like the look of the slimmer skirt with the flounces wrapped around. What do you think?

Addicted to Vista Print

By now our guests have received the Save the Dates and I just love how they turned out. Ann, of Still Dottie, designed them and we printed them through VistaPrint. If you have ever purchased or printed anything from VistaPrint you know that after you buy one thing, they send you all kinds of crazy deals. I can’t resist a discount so after we printed the Save the Dates, I received a coupon for a FREE tote bag. I ended up paying something for it because I had it printed double-sided and shipped overnight, but still it was a deal. If I am not careful, I am going to end up with all kind of wedding paraphernalia, collared shirts, hats, mouse pads, you name it!
